Malaysia’s No.1, Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum returned with a gold medal

Malaysia arranged a great international event in Negeri Sembilan where the country’s most experienced international boxer, Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin returned with a gold medal at the flyweight (51kg).
Negeri Sembilan’s Nilai city hosted the Four Corners Boxing Championships in Malaysia where the Indonesians shined in this men’s elite competitions together with the returning Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum.
Malaysia welcomed teams from Indonesia and Singapore as well in order to make joint preparations for the upcoming major championships.
Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin won several national and regional events in 2019 when he spent his last year among the youth boxers. He claimed a gold medal also at the Penang Pesta International Youth Tournament in December 2019.
He joined the elite national team in 2021 and he trained hard in the country despite of the Covid-19 pandemic. He had a very busy year in 2022 when he competed in all of the major championships with some victories and progressed skills.
Qaiyum was a quarter-finalist at the 2022 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships in Amman where only Kazakhstan’s World Champion Saken Bibossynov was able to stop him. The Malaysian No.1 was also a quarter-finalist at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and he competed in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham as well.
He achieved a bronze medal at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia which was his next career highlight. He continued his international campaign at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games where he was a strong representative from Malaysia.
Abdul Qaiyum won the 2024 edition of the Malaysian National Golden Gloves Boxing Championships and he remained on the top in his homeland.
He won the recent international event in Negeri Sembilan after beating Mohamad Ali Bin Mat Nawi and Indonesia’s Krispinus Mariano Wonda at the men’s flyweight (51kg). Qaiyum won both of those contests by unanimous decision and his footwork was impressively excellent in this Four Corners Boxing Championships.
