Tajikistan sends 20 boxers to the CIS Junior Games

Tajikistan will send 20 junior talents to the Commonwealth of Independent States Games which will take place in Azerbaijan in a few days.

Eight cities will host the CIS Games in Azerbaijan and boxing will feature at the Yevlakh Olympic Center from September 29 until October 5.

Tajikistan registered 142 young athletes including 20 boxers to the Commonwealth of Independent States Games. The will compete in the boxing event of the Games with 7 female and 13 male pugilists.

Their men’s team trained in Rohit and in Uzbekistan’s main training center in Yangiabad in the recent weeks. The women’s squad prepared in Tajikistan’s capital in Dushanbe and in another Uzbek city, in Namangan.

Ramziya Mamajonova won the 2024 Tajikistan Junior National Championships and she is still a top junior at the women’s pinweight (46kg). Bibisoro Rajabova (48kg) and the 16-year-old Jannatkhon Sanginova (50kg) are medal hopefuls for Tajikistan in the Games.

Their lightweight (60kg) boxer, Furugh Sarkhadzoda is only 15-year-old but she has the experience not only from regional events. Zhasmina Mamaraimova was also born in 2010 as Sarkhadzoda and she will represent Tajikistan at the welterweight (66kg). The Junior National silver medallist Nigora Yusupova and Muyazanna Elnazarova are still their female boxers in the travelling team.

The 15-year-old Schoolboys National Champion and Asian Championships competitor Damir Nazarov will participate at the men’s pinweight (46kg) while the Makanalin Junior Memorial winner Azamjon Khasanov moved up to the light flyweight (48kg).

The Makanalin Tournament silver medallist Bekhruz Umarov is one of the most experienced junior talents in the national team despite his age of 15.

Mukhammadjon Mirkhaydarov moved up two categories to the bantamweight (54kg) since the 2024 competitions. The ASBC Asian Schoolboys Champion Akbarjon Abdulloyev is another ace in the squad, he will compete at the featherweight (57kg) in Azerbaijan.

Khatlon region’s Umarjon Asrorov will turn to 16 later this year and he won already the junior national title in 2024. Amir Nazimov celebrated his 16th birthday last month and he is ready for a medal while the Makanalin Junior Tournament silver medallist Abubakr Olimzoda was named among the favourites as well.

Azam Odilzoda (52kg), Yusuf Kurbonov (60kg), Khilol Salmonzoda (63kg), Saddam Zabirov (70kg) and Mukhammad Akhmadzoda (80kg) are still the team members.
