Nepal has just finished with its U14-U16-U18 Novice Selection Tournament for the girls and the boys in a three-day long competition, and their next competition, the National Elite Selection Tournament is underway in Lalitpur.
The exact name of the competition is Nepal’s Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Talent Hunt Selection 2025, which is a similar project, what India have since many years.
The President of Nepal Boxing, Mr. Ram Awale followed the female and male bouts of the U14-U16-U18 competition and he is also there in the National Elite Selection Tournament to check the current skills of their talents.
Nepal has promising women’s boxing life, their younger male boxers are also great prodigies and their National Federation hosted several events to give them more experience and exposure in their homeland.
The men’s lightweight (60kg) is a strong category in the Talent Hunt Selection and the first winner of the entire competition was Bimal Gharti Magar, who defeated Mausam Laksamba by 4:1 split decision in Lalitpur.
The international boxer, the ASBC Asian U22 bronze medallist Arpil Rana Magar had an even closer contest in the first session of the selection event but finally his hand was raised against Funglang Kambang Limbu in their flyweight quarter-final.
Sohan Rai competed already in a few national events such as the Prakash Dahal Memorial Tournament but he arrived to Lalitpur with upgraded skills to beat Namling Limbu unanimously at the lightweight (60kg).
Chhewang Tamang competed at the Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva last October and he joined the elite age group this January. The 19-year-old lightweight boxer controlled all of the three rounds against Sujan Poudel to win their meeting comfortably.
A veteran boxer, the ASBC competitor Bhupendra Thapa is member of the national team since many years and his international experiences paid off against Dipal Rai in a highly anticipated light welterweight contest.
Abhirath Gurung, who knocked out Pradip Parki in the first round of their meeting, delivered the first classic KO of the Talent Hunt Selection.
