The Sri Lankan T.B. Jayah Boxing Championships is a success in Horana
Sri Lanka hosted the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo this May and their boxers earned record number of medals in the event.
Their next activity is the T.B. Jayah Boxing Championships for the male junior boxers and the Anurudda Shanaka Bandara Trophy for the female junior talents is a great success.
The two events are in progress in the city of Horana near to Kalutara, which is located in the Western part of the South Asian country. The capital city of Colombo is only 42km far from Horana which has a busy boxing life with several local gyms.
Some of the boxers competed already in the events in 2024 and they have the experience and knowledge to attract the local crowd.
The T.B. Jayah Boxing Championships has a long tradition, the current edition is the 54th in the event’s history which began in 1970 to support the development of the younger generations of boxers.
The female junior boxers can fight from the pinweight up to the heavyweight in Horana: 46kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg and +80kg weight classes.
Twenty-four female contests have concluded before the finals of the Anurudda Shanaka Bandara Challenge Trophy and 13 champions will be crowned in the last competition day.
The male junior boxers can compete also at the 46kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg and +80kg weight categories.
The junior boys had already 139 bouts in the T.B. Jayah Boxing Championships and also 13 talents will earn their gold medals in Horana. The total number of female and male boxers in the event is 215 which made the local organizers very busy from the first day.
