The Best achievements of the National Federations – DPR Korea

The Best achievements of the National Federations is the new PR campaign of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the introduction of the DPR Korean Boxing Federation and their best results are the next in the series.

DPR Korea is one of the Asian boxing powers with two Olympic, eight Asian Games and nine titles from the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

The DPR Korean boxers competed or qualified to ten editions of the Olympic Games between 1972 and 2024. Their overall boxing performance in the Olympic Games is two gold, three silver and four bronze medals. DPR Korea is the 27th nation in the overall medal table of the Olympic Games and the seventh best country in the Asian continent behind Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan.

The DPR Korean male boxers took two silver and five bronze medals in the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in the past.

Their female boxers are even more successful, they claimed nine gold, seven silver and twelve bronze medals in the Women’s World Boxing Championships. The North Koreans are No.5 in the all-time medal table of the Women’s World Boxing Championships and their last champion from 2025, Pang Chol Mi is one of the best female boxers of the whole globe.

The DPR Koreans competed well enough in the last edition of the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro on October 2024 and their small delegation achieved one gold and one silver medal.

DPR Korea claimed eight gold, nine silver and ten bronze medals in the history of the boxing events of the Asian Games. Their first gold medals were taken by Gu Yong Jo and Ro Yong So in the Tehran 1974 Asian Games. Gu Yong Jo became their first boxer who became two-time champion in the Asian Games in 1978, defending his throne in Bangkok.

Jo Ryon Sik and Jong Jo Ung delivered further two gold medals for DPR Korea in the Delhi 1982 Asian Games which was their next peak performance. Their first female Asian Games title was bagged by Jang Un Hui who won the middleweight (75kg) in the Incheon 2014 Asian Games.

Hangzhou hosted the last edition of the Asian Games in China nearly two years ago and their Pang Chol Mi won the gold medal in her strong weight category. She was also the last DPR Korean boxer who earned a title in an ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in the Bangkok edition in 2019.
