The Best achievements of the National Federations – Cambodia

The Best achievements of the National Federations is the new PR campaign of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the introduction of the Cambodian Boxing Federation and their best results are the next in the series.

Cambodia achieved two silvers and one bronze medal in the history of the boxing events of the Asian Games. Their first Asian Games medal was achieved by You Chin Hong at the lightweight (60kg) in the Jakarta 1962 Asian Games. Khieu Soeun and Long Savoen both won silver medals at the Bangkok 1970 Asian Games representing the Khmer Republic on the multisport event.

The Southeast Asian Games is the most important event for the Cambodians and the regions’ best boxers which holds every two years. You Chin Hong claimed Cambodia’s first gold medal in the boxing events of the Southeast Asian Games in 1961. Sun Soth and Olympian Khieu Son won their next and last gold medals in the 1965 edition.

Since the 1965 Kuala Lumpur edition, the Cambodian boxers advanced five-times to the finals of the Southeast Asian Games. Phar Khong and Sun Soth have done that performance in 1971, Long Savoeung in 1973, Pual Sophat in 2009 and last time Ratha Ven in the 2015 Singapore edition. All of them claimed silver medals on these events increasing the quantity of the Cambodian successes. 

Cambodia sent boxers to the 2009, 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships to Milan and Baku which were their appearances in that strong global event. Hin Say Heng and Long Lamda were their participants in these event in Italy and in Azerbaijan.

Their next generation of boxers competed well in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships where Bang Non was stopped only in the quarter-finals of the bantamweight (56kg) reaching almost a medal in the strong competition which was the only qualification event for the boxers to the Youth Olympic Games.

The Cambodian Boxing Federation had a very important mission, the 2023 Southeast Asian Games was held in the country for the very first time. The management of the Cambodian Boxing Federation developed a long term strategy still in 2016 to develop boxing and made it more popular in the country before 2023.

The Cambodians had a brilliant year in 2023 when their boxers claimed one silver and one bronze medal at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Thailand. Following those historic moments, their athletes earned one gold, three silver and five bronze medals at the Southeast Asian Games on home soil in that year.

The Cambodian Boxing Federation arranged a Coach Course and also a historic Referee & Judge Course to develop their officials in the recent years. Their last major achievement was a bronze medal from the ex-Uzbek Anvar Nasredinov at 2024 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai.
