The Best achievements of the National Federations – Afghanistan

The Best achievements of the National Federation is the new PR campaign of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the introduction of the Afghanistan Boxing Federation is the first on the series.
Afghanistan’s boxing life was a big challenge in the 1990s when the country suffered during its Civil War but the sport survived those serious periods. Despite of all challenges, Afghanistan was able to send a team to several of the Asian Boxing Championships.
The Afghanistan Boxing Federation is a strongly developing country in our sport which reached its first highlight in the Tashkent 1995 Asian Boxing Championships when Muhammad Aman claimed an unexpected silver medal which were followed by their young Afghan talents in the recent years.
Afghanistan’s best boxer in that era Muhammad Aman eliminated Japan’s Yoshiaki Imaoka in the quarter-finals which was a big surprise in Tashkent 30-years-ago. The Afghan boxer bowed out Chinese Taipei’s Wang Chun Yuan in the last four during his road to the finals of the light middleweight (71kg).
Aman advanced to the final of the weight class and had to meet with Kazakhstan’s Yermakhan Ibraimov who became Olympic Champion in 2000. Aman did not have real chance to beat his Kazakh star opponent but his silver medal was Afghanistan’s best ever performance and highlight during their elite boxing history.
Afghanistan returned to the boxing map in the 2002 Asian Games which took place in Busan, South Korea and since then the country attended more international events. Afghanistan’s talents impressed in the Tashkent 2015 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships where two of their boxers such as Mesawer Kakar and Zahoor Nejrabi claimed bronze medals after beating more experienced Tajik and Thai opponents.
Afghanistan’s next highlight was the 2019 edition of the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships which was held in Kuwait City. During the first historical edition, Afghanistan proved its very best and ranked as No.7 in the team rankings. Mohammad Younus Amiri and Masiullah Shirzai earned two bronze medals for Afghanistan in Kuwait City one year ago.
Afghanistan reached a fantastic and historic result at the 2024 ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. Their US-based Qais Alizada not only reached a medal but he advanced to the finals of the light heavyweight (80kg) in the U22 part of the outstanding championship.
Afghanistan achieved one silver and one bronze in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships which were taken by Mujtaba Sharifi and Mohammad Mobaser Qatee in Colombo. Their Firdous Najibi and Oman Hotak bagged silver medals and Abdullah Baheer Qayoumi a bronze in the annual ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships which results are their next historic achievements.
