Kyrgyzstan’s new super heavyweight sensation, the 18-year-old Myrzakir Koshaliev

Kyrgyzstan’s super heavyweight pugilist, the 19-year-old Myrzakir Koshaliev won his first continental title in Colombo at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka and he was named as the Best Male 22 Boxer of the entire competition.
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, French Polynesia, IBA-India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, IBA-Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam were the 23 participating nations in this championship.
Myrzakir Koshaliev was born in Kyrgyzstan on December 21 in 2006 and he joined the national team as a junior three years ago.
Koshaliev earned a gold medal at the 2022 Kyrgyz Junior National Championships in Bishkek which was one of his first top achievements.
He bagged a gold medals at the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Kyrgyz Youth National Championships. His first main international result was a bronze medal at the 2023 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Astana.
Koshaliev competed at the Dildabekov Prizes Youth Tournament and the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in 2024. He reached the quarter-finals at the 2024 Youth World Boxing Championships and only Kazakhstan’s No.1, Aslan Yeldibayuly stopped his road in the super heavyweight (+92kg).
He claimed his first elite national title on November 2024 and many of the experts said that Koshaliev could be a long-term solution for Kyrgyzstan in the heaviest weight class.
Koshaliev was involved to the elite national team immediately after his youth age and he started the international events with a bronze medal at the prestigious Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan this April.
He claimed a gold medal at the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek this May which was his last preparation event before the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships.
Kyrgyzstan sent a strong team to the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and among them three claimed gold medals in Colombo. Myrzakir Koshaliev is only 18-year-old but he had the fighting spirit, the strength and the stamina to beat Kazakhstan’s Yersultan Sapar in the final of the super heavyweight (+92kg). The Kyrgyz teenager controlled the last final of the whole championships and he earned also the Best Male Boxer Trophy.
