Esmail Alqassimi proved Saudi Arabia’s strong progress today

Saudi Arabia’s Esmail Alqassimi approved his progress and he amazed the crowd at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Day3.
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, French Polynesia, IBA-India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, IBA-Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 23 participating nations in this championship.
Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Orozbekov claimed gold medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and the 19-year-old talent is member of their elite and U22 national teams now. The young Kyrgyz boxer was punctual in the exchanges against Tajikistan’s Dovud Makhkamov who competed in the 2023 World Boxing Championships as well. Orozbekov had world-class defensive skills in this contest and the Kyrgyz teenager joined the next stage of the men’s U22 welterweight (67kg).
Malaysia’s Mohamed Farid Bin Muhammad Ariff Aiman competed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships but he had to meet Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev who achieved his first Asian medal still in 2019. The Malaysian southpaw landed some hooks in the first round but Anarbayev had the strong will to finish this welterweight (67kg) bout. The Malaysian survived the most dangerous moments and their bout was decided by points decisions in favour of Anarbayev.
Sri Lanka’s fist U22 boxer on Day3 was Gedara V. Jayasinghe Ambarapola who faced Saudi Arabia’s Esmail Alqassimi in the next welterweight (67kg) bout of the day. The local boxer received a big punch from the Saudi opponent but he tried to adopt the level of the bout. The referee counted the Sri Lankan twice in this contest and Alqassimi proved his fantastic progress since his last appearance in an event.
Tajikistan’s Great Silk Way Tournament competitor Murodjon Ashuraliyev landed his shots with perfect timing against Saudi Arabia’s Majed Issa who had great results in their recent Open Tournaments and National Championships. The Tajik light middleweight (71kg) boxer dominated the last round and finally he could win their meeting unanimously in Colombo.
Agazhan Kadyr did not participate in the level of the Asian Boxing Championships yet but the Kazakh boy had the national level experience to control his opener against Sri Lanka’s Gedara Mudiyanselage Bandara Kande. Kadyr was in different level and his powerful combinations resulted a quick RSC triumph for the Kazakh light middleweight (71kg) boxer.
Sri Lanka’s Yazmin Mohommed Usaith is the youngest boxer in their elite pool but he is still eligible to compete in the U22 age group as well. The Sri Lankan Elite National Champion controlled the first round against Saudi Arabia’s Nayif Almowallad and he had the advantage on the judges’ scorecards. The young Sri Lankan felt the tempo well enough to beat his Saudi opponent and he is now a medallist at the middleweight (75kg).
New Zealand’s Tongan-descent Roman Viney competed in several top events in the recent two years including the Pacific Games. The Kiwi cruiserweight (86kg) boxer smashed his local opponent, Gedara M. Bandara Walaw Arambe in the first round and he was still able to increase is speed in the second. The New Zealander landed lethal shots in the second round and the Sri Lankan corner abandoned their unequal fight.
IBA-India’s Nancy was too experienced and strong for Sri Lanka’s Kajinthini Loganathan at the women’s featherweight (57kg) which bout finished in the third round by RSC. IBA-India’s next female boxer, Shivani had a more difficult job against Kazakhstan’s Anar Tursynbek at the lightweight (60kg). The Kazakh had the advantage in terms of routine, technique and speed therefore she eliminated the Indian with superiority.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Uldana Taubay and Vietnam’s Tran Thi Tuyet Tran met in the last bout of the third competition day at the women’s U22 welterweight (66kg). The referee counted the Vietnamese boxer twice in the first round and Taubay finished the job in the second, earlier than she expected.
