Great session for the energetic Sri Lankans in Colombo

The host country’s youth talents impressed at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Day2.
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, French Polynesia, IBA-India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, IBA-Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 23 participating nations in this championship.
Cambodia’s Sovann Nea is a future hope in the Southeast Asian country and the 18-year-old talent tried to reduce the fighting distance against Saudi Arabia’s Feras Alsubhi in the opening bout of the second day of boxing. The Saudi talent counter-attacked the Cambodian with perfect timing and he had the technical abilities to beat Nea in the preliminary round of the youth minimumweight (48kg).
Sri Lanka’s first boxer in action was Gedara Warnakulasooriya Weliketiye Sathsara who shocked Kyrgyzstan’s Anaraly Anarbekov in the first round with his aggressive style if boxing. The referee counted the Kyrgyz in the second minute but Anarbekov was more careful after that moment. Gedara looked still fresh in the third round and he delivered the first sensation of the day with his success in the youth minimumweight (48kg).
Kazakhstan’s Dossymzhan Tangatar competed in the Adriatic Pearl Youth Tournament in Budva, Montenegro two months ago and he prepared well to the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The Kazakh was taller than Sri Lanka’s Nilusha Thathsara Ilanghasinghage but he moved also forward as well against a good opponent. Tangatar stopped the smaller Sri Lankan in the beginning of the second round and he demonstrated his power well to win this flyweight (51kg) bout.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Aldiyar Bakhadur joined the youth age group this January and he was selected immediately to the national team. Bakhadur is one of the gold medal favourites at the bantamweight (54kg) and he had the strong performance to beat Sri Lanka’s Vidusha Sansitha Hettiarachchi.
Kyrgyzstan’s Daniil Bulavkin is a newcomer in the youth national team but he tried to dictate the tempo against United Arab Emirates’ Bader Saeed Ali Alsedrani. The boxer from the UAE started well in the first round but Bulavkin increased his tempo in the second therefore the Kyrgyz joined the next stage of boxing.
Kazakhstan’s Nygman Nygmet competed in several previous editions of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships successfully and he stopped Australia’s Angus Friswell in their opener at the youth featherweight (57kg). Nygmet moved up three categories in the recent one year but he was strong enough to decide their contest earlier than the final gong.
Saudi Arabia’s Mohammad Alhaidary tried to keep the safest long distance against Sri Lanka’s Witana Arachchilage Jayathissa but the local boxer caught him with heavy shots. The Sri Lankan youngster delivered an energetic performance against the Saudi Arabian talent and he managed the pathway to the next stage at the featherweight (57kg).
Tuan Aasil Murajudeen is another Sri Lankan southpaw who had great footwork against IBA-India’s Mohit in the first round and he adopted the rhythm of this youth lightweight (60kg) bout. The Indian switched into a higher tempo in the second round and he had a tight advantage on the judges’ scorecards after six minutes of fight. The Sri Lankan gave in everything in the last round but Mohit had the current boxing knowledge to win their close meeting in Colombo.
Kyrgyzstan’s Erlan Ergeshov and Mongolia’s Tengis Amarjargal faced in the next youth lightweight (60kg) bout in Colombo where the first looked more punctual in the first round. Ergeshov also controlled the second round therefore he had a massive advantage on the scorecards before the last period and the Kyrgyz won this preliminary meeting by large margin of difference.
Kazakhstan’s Adilet Tortubek dominated his lightweight (60kg) bout against Tajikistan’s Zoir Khojabekov in the last male bout of the session, finishing it in the third round with heavy punches. IBA-India’s female minimumweight (48kg) talent Chanchal Kumari was too experienced for Saudi Arabia’s National Champion Alanood Alghamdi but her opponent also proved progress and kept fighting until the last seconds.
