Dyushebayev and Ussen were the stars in the Nurmakhanov Tournament

Kyrgyzstan’s Nurzhigit Dyushebayev and Kazakhstan’s teenage talent Akhmet Ussen were among the 13 winners at the 31st edition of the Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Memorial Tournament which took place in Turkistan.

The UNESCO World heritage city of Turkistan hosted the recent Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament and their elite international event, the Nurmakhanov was also concluded in this fantastic venue.

Mr. Abdusalam Nurmakhanov was one of the most famous boxers and boxing coaches from the city of Turkestan who served the country’s boxing life from the 1950s until the late 1990s. As a boxer he won 222 out of his 239 bouts and he earned the title of the Kazakhstan SSR National Championships 11-times, and he achieved four medals in the All-USSR Nationals.

One of the former national team members, a top Kazakh Referee & Judge, Mr. Darkhan Ashirov was the Technical Delegate of the Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Memorial Tournament.

The boxers could compete in 13 weight classes and altogether 73 elites represented their regions and nations in the event.

Kyrgyzstan’s Nurzhigit Dyushebayev was quarter-finalist at the 2023 Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships but since then he moved up to the bantamweight (54kg). The 27-year-old boxer had the routine to beat Dzhambul region’s Nursultan Orazbay in the final of the weight class in Turkistan.

Samat Zhetibayev competed international events already in 2017 and the Mangystau region’s boxer was strong enough to beat Bakbergen Tursynbay in the hectic featherweight (57kg) final. Eleven boxers competed at the lightweight (60kg) in Turkistan and Aktobe region’s Nurbolat Bekbauov defeated all of his rivals to take the title.

Turkistan region’s trio such as Nurgisa Turabekov (48kg), Arkhat Turgynbek (63.5kg) and Abdigalym Abdikerim (67kg) all won their buy weight categories on home soil and delighted the local crowd.

One of the top local boys, the ASBC Asian Youth Champion Akhmet Ussen had a successful mission at the light middleweight (71kg), he defeated Temirkhan Tezek for the title. A former youth national team member, Azamat Bektas delivered the next top performance in Turkistan with his success over Ramazan Dauetay at the light heavyweight (80kg).

Bekbolat Abdikerim (86kg), Nurmaganbet Yusupov (92kg) and Daniyal Saparbay (+92kg) all are in promising stage in their boxing career and won the Nurmakhanov Tournament.

 92kg: Nurmaganbet Yusupov, Kazakhstan

 +92kg: Daniyal Saparbay, Kazakhstan
