Kazakhstan made clean sweep in the men’s finals of the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament

The male finals of the 23rd Bekzat Sattarkhanov Memorial Tournament recognized the rising of some new youth talents such as Nurkhan Kumarbekov, Dossymzhan Tanatar, Aldiyar Bakhadur, Rizat Tursynbek and Darkhan Ussen in the city of Turkistan.

Turkistan is located in the southern part of Kazakhstan and the historic city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The boxers who were born in 2007 and in 2008 were eligible to participate in the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament this year.

The competition is dedicated to Mr. Bekzat Sattarkhanov who was gold medallist in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games but he died in a car crash a few months later of his glory before his 20th birthday.

Altogether 228 male boxers competed in the 23rd Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg).

Zhetysu region’s Nurkhan Kumarbekov won the first the gold medal in Turkistan, he defeated Odilshokh Kholimov of Uzbekistan at the minimumweight (48kg). Another Kazakh boxer, Dossymzhan Tanatar controlled all of his contests at the flyweight (51kg) including the final against Bakdaulet Tolen.

The ASBC Asian Junior Champion Aldiyar Bakhadur joined the youth competitions this January but he impressed in the bantamweight (54kg) and defeated his trop rivals such as Mongolia’s Manal Tsendbaatar and Rassul Seidish of Kazakhstan.

Darkhan Ussen has strong family connections to boxing and the Astana-based boxer is another big asset in Kazakhstan from the 2008 age group. He triumphed over such good boxers as Nygman Nygmet, Nursayat Tynysbekov and Rauan Mustakhim to take the featherweight (57kg) title.

Kazakhstan’s promising duo as Mukhit Nurkabyluly (63.5kg) and Sultan Turdaly (67kg) won their finals by split decisions. Dzhambul region’s Shamsat Lesbay caused two sensations in the event when he eliminated Bekarys Nurmukhan and Tagir Satayev but he lost in the final to Rizat Tursynbek.

The ASBC Asian Junior silver medallist Zhasulan Berdaly defeated his Chinese opponent, Yeerasili Ashan in the final of the middleweight (75kg). One of the top finals in the men’s part of the competition was held at the light heavyweight (80kg) between two strong Kazakhs, the ASBC Asian Junior Champion Timur Taybekov and Igor Solovyev and the latter won this meeting.

Kazakhstan’s Rassul Assankhanov was member of the youth national team already in 2024 and he knocked out his final opponent, China’s Abduvoli Abdulimiti at the heavyweight (92kg). The Asian Junior bronze medallist Vladislav Samozhonov walked over to the super heavyweight (+92kg) title due to Beksultan Kairatuly did not compete in the final.
