Strong start for DPR Korea in Nis

The new edition of the IBA Women’s Elite World Boxing Championships will start with 14 bouts in Nis, Serbia today.
Nis is the third largest city in Serbia with the population of 260,000 with its suburbs and the administrative center of the Nisava District. Nis is a historic city, built by the time of the Roman Empire and it has a fortress, memorial park, chapels, monuments and other important sightseeing.
The women’s boxers will be able to participate in all of the twelve official weight categories from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the heavyweight (+81kg) in Nis.
DPR Korea sent a strong team to the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and their new light flyweight (50kg) sensation, An Kum Byol had to do her very best against Venezuela’s Alondra Evimir Brito. The South American rival was highly competitive therefore An concentrated in the opening bout of the entire championships until the last seconds to win this contest by split decision.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Champion Alua Balkybekova is a 29-year-old experienced boxer in the national team who switched from the minimumweight (48kg) in the previous one year. Her first opponent was Kenya’s Veronica Mbithe, a strong boxer but Balkybekova managed her pathway to the next stage with her outstanding technical skills.
DPR Korea’s former Junior World Champion Won Un Gyong is currently 25 and she is one of the aces of the lightweight (60kg) in Nis. Won has never competed any previous editions of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships but she made a strong debut against Venezuela’s Krisandy Rios.
Tajikistan’s three-time ASBC Asian Championships bronze medallist Shoira Zulkaynarova walked over to the next stage at the lightweight (60kg) against South Africa’s Esona Peter. Vietnam’s new boxer in the same weight class, Ngo Thi Mai Chuc also started her campaign successfully against Ethiopia’s Milion Chefo Cherba who could not fight in the first competition day.
Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova met Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Oltinoy Sotimboyeva in the most exciting contest of the first day of boxing. The Kazakh heavyweight (+81kg) girl defeated the Uzbek youngster in Chiang Mai three months ago and she has done the same in Nis on their repeat match.
