Thailand’s Sorawit Chanthara returns to the Asian events and keeps the focus on the top of the podium

Thailand sent 18 delegation members including 12 boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships which will open with its first competition day in Al Ain on August 29.
The upcoming ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships will be held in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates between August 27 and September 10 which is the first top event after the Paris Olympics. Two age groups, two genders and Asia’s best 13, 14, 15 and 16-year-old talents will be competing for the 56 available gold medals in Al Ain.
Mr. Thong Thaweekoon, Mr. Satjaporn Jumroensan, Mr. Narawuth Pleenaram, Mr. Phadungchai Phannuma and Mrs. Kittiya Nampai are the coaches who supported the preparation of their junior, schoolgirl and schoolboy national teams.
Thailand claimed one title in the 2022 and in the 2023 editions of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. The Southeast Asian boxing power plans to continue that winning path in Al Ain as well despite the 12 selected boxers are mostly newcomers in the international stage of boxing.
The selected boxers came from various region from Thailand, from Surat Thani, Trang, Buriram, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Surin, Chaiyaphum, Udon Ratchathani, Chanthaburi, Kalasin and Loei but all of them trained in the national training centre in Muak Lek.
Konwaran Wuttichai and Rujira Sriphonthong will represent Team Thailand in the schoolgirls part of the competition which is a historic event for the 13 and 14-year-old female boxers.
Thailand bagged several medals in the 2019 edition of the Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships and among them some already joined the elite national team. Their current female junior boxers such as Rommannee Tepindang, Saranporn Phoonpon, and the most promising talent, Nannaphat Mungpingklang all have medal expectations.
Thailand achieved one bronze medal in the historic 1st ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City five years ago. Their schoolboys talents as Aphichat Pagotiyo (40kg) and Boonpiphop Charasri (46kg) both will be turning to 14 only after the start of this championship.
Thailand will be covering the smaller junior weight classes in Al Ain where the last year’s quarter-finalist No.1, Sorawit Chanthara, Weeraphat Noksan, Siwa Chainarong, Nattaphumin Thongklam, and their final addition to the team, Chanaphon Chuaina all are dreaming about a medal.
