Uzbekistan’s strong duo such as Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev and Lazizbek Mullojonov, furthermore China’s Wu Yu earned three gold medals for Asia among the four final bouts in the Paris Olympics today.

Thirteen weight categories, 248 top boxers, 124 female and 124 male athletes from 69 nations will compete in the boxing event of the Paris Olympics.

Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, China, Chinese Taipei, India, the Philippines, Tajikistan, Jordan, Mongolia, South Korea, DPR Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan and Palestine will have boxers in the Olympic Games from the Asian continent.

Uzbekistan’s Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev moved up to the light middleweight (71kg) following his World title at the welterweight (67kg) to be there in the Olympics. The Uzbek advanced to the final of the Games and faced Mexico’s Marco Verde in one of the most anticipating title contests. The Uzbek started their bout better, Muydinkhudjayev had the unpredictable movements and he was favoured in all of the judges’ scorecards after three minutes of fight. Muydinkhudjayev had a perfect second round and he did not make any serious risks in the third bagging the Olympic title in Paris.

China’s Wu Yu, the Asian Games winner had excellent pedigree in the preparation tournaments this year but she had to meet for the title with one of the top stars, Turkey’s Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Busenaz Cakiroglu. Wu opened their campaign with nice counter-punches and he looked patient from the first seconds to beat the European Games winner opponent in the final of the women’s light flyweight (50kg).

Uzbekistan’s Lazizbek Mullojonov moved down to the heavyweight (92kg) one and half year ago due to Bakhodir Jalolov’s dominance at the super heavyweight (+92kg), The Asian Champion Uzbek tried to use his amazing speed against Azerbaijan’s former World Champion Loren Berto Alfonso. The ex-Cuban was not enough competitive today, he looked satisfied with this Olympic final and Mullojonov’s strategy paid off today to earn Uzbekistan’s third boxing gold medal.

China’s World Champion and Asian Games winner Yang Liu was named as the main favourite of the women’s welterweight (66kg) but she had such a tough semi-final against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien Chin on their repeat contest. The Inner Mongolian Liu expected another hard battle in Paris against Algeria’s Imane Khelif and she was not able to repeat her previous performances therefore she earned a silver medal this time.
