Teenagers as Mashkentayev, Anarbayev and Mursal are finalists at the Nurmakhanov Tournament

The final line-ups are confirmed in the new 30th edition of the Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Tournament in the city of Turkestan where the local young Kazakhs impressed in the session.  

Boxers are able to compete from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) in the event. Altogether 145 elite male boxers are participating in the new edition of the Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Tournament in Kazakhstan.

Mr. Abdusalam Nurmakhanov was one of the most famous boxers and boxing coaches from the city of Turkestan who served the country’s boxing life from the 1950s until the late 1990s. As a boxer he won 222 out of his 239 bouts and he earned the title of the Kazakhstan SSR National Championships 11-times, and he achieved four medals in the All-USSR Nationals.

Shymkent’s Tileuberdi Suleimeni and Dzhambul region’s Nurzat Ongarov will be the first finalists in the Nurmakhanov Tournament, following both won their minimumweight (48kg) semi-finals unanimously.

Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Youth silver medallist Bekzat Ergeshov won two out of the three rounds against Kazakhstan’s local hero, Ryskhan Talip and he managed his way to the final of the flyweight (51kg) where his last opponent will be Yernur Kairat from the city of Almaty. 

Islam Mashkentayev, Pavlodar’s new hero, had difficulties in the first round against Tajikistan’s Buzurgmekhr Iksanov but in the second, his punches were decisive and the 19-year-old bantamweight (54kg) boxer cleared his pathway to the title bout.

The dream final at the tough featherweight (57kg) has realized, as the Bocskai Memorial Tournament Assylzhan Serikbay, one of the biggest punchers, and Nursultan Altynbek, the Asian U22 Champion, advanced to the title contest in this event.

Turkestan region’s Adilet Kurmetov joined the Kazakh elite national team in 2017 and he competed in various international events during his career. The 30-year-old boxer stopped Alimzhan Beskempir in their semi-finals and he will now meet for the lightweight (60kg) gold Zhanarys Orynbay who eliminated Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion Bakhtiyor Asadov.

Kazakhstan’s new young sensations such as Bakhtiyar Anarbayev (63.5kg) and the Youth World silver medallist Nurbek Mursal, their teenage hopefuls, both advanced to the finals of the Nurmakhanov Tournament.

Azamat Bektas, another promising Kazakh boxer, eliminated Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 Champion Nurislom Ismoilov in the semi-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg) and he can prepare for another hard battle against an Asian Elite Champion, Tursynbai Kulakhmet.
