Women boxing was a big success at the Chinese Taipei National Games
Chinese Taipei hosted the 2015 AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior World Boxing Championships on May where their young hopes proved to the globe’s top athletes they are enough strong to join to the medal contenders.
Chinese Taipei’s woman boxing life turned to a new era in the recent years and their new national competition delivered highest possible level. Altogether 16 elite ladies and 79 men boxers took part in the Chinese Taipei National Games in the city of Taipei where the competition was held in 13 weight classes. The competition was also the first selection event for the major goals of 2016 when several Olympic qualifiers to be scheduled.
Former AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Lin Yu Ting will be turning to 20 later this year but she is member of the national team since three and half years. Their top talent defeated Chuang Kai Ting in the final of the Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg) and continued her dominancy in the national events.
AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Chen Weng Ling began boxing at the age of 14 and she had enough strength to win the Women’s Lightweight class (60 kg) in the Chinese Taipei National Games. The 23-year-old southpaw defeated national team member young Gao Yu Min in the semi-final and continued her winning path against strong Chiu Ching Ya in the gold medal bout.
AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Wu Pei Yi moved up two weight classes in the recent months to box in an Olympic category. The 19-year-old Middleweight class (75 kg) boxer, who trains in the National Chiayi University, used aggressive style against Lin Li Wei and secured the third women’s gold medal in Taipei.
Former ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist 27-year-old Yang Yu Ting returned to the world of boxing after a break and dominated all of his fights in the Men’s Middleweight class (75 kg). Chinese Taipei’s best male boxer defeated national team member Yeh Chin An in the semi-final and Yang Meng Yen in the gold medal bout which meant he returned to the top of his weight category.
Lin Yu Che is member of their national team since 2011 and triumphed over Po Fu Kuei in the final of the Men’s Bantamweight class (56 kg) which bout was a top one. Another national team member boxer Lai Chu En defeated Chiang Lien Yao in the final of the Lightweight class (60 kg) and secured his place for later actions.
Asian Games competitor 26-year-old Chang Wei Jen had to meet in the final with his main local rival Pan Hung Ming but the gold medal of the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) delivered to him. Chinese Taipei’s another top male boxer Su Chin Cheng was in different level than Chien Cheng Yang in the final of the Welterweight class (69 kg) and claimed his next national title in Taipei.
The further gold medal winners in the men competition of the National Games were Chen Tsung Chun (49 kg), Chen Yao Chun (52 kg), Chiu Yi Chun (81 kg), Liu Tai Chun (91 kg) and Chiu Yu Chuan (+91 kg).
