An emotional performance from Qais Eshish guaranteed a final spot for Jordan

Jordan’s Qais Eshish exceeded the previous expectations and he advanced to the finals in the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana.
Tajikistan’s Muinkhodzha Muminov and Philippines’ Robert Malunoc Jr. both won two contests in the previous rounds of the youth minimumweight (48kg). The Filipino used the same strategy as in his previous contests but Muminov’s pressure controlled their exchanges in the first and second rounds. The Tajik boy became the first finalist in the entire championships following his 4:1 split decision success today.
India’s Asian Junior Champion Brijesh Tamta moved ahead more than in his previous contests and he tried to use his quick jabs to take the control against Kyrgyzstan’s Yasur Taalaybek Uulu. The Kyrgyz minimumweight (48kg) boxer was highly competitive in this semi-final but Tamta’s attacking style of boxing was favoured today and the Indian marched to the final bout.
Kazakhstan’s Beksultan Boranbek eliminated a top rival in the quarter-finals and he tried to do better in the first round than last time. The Kazakh flyweight (51kg) boxer was highly motivated against India’s Aryan and he delivered his best performance with perfect timing in the semi-finals. Boranbek lost the control in the third round, he received a few punches and surprisingly he lost the bout by split decision.
Kyrgyzstan’s Zafarbek Kamilov eliminated two fantastic rivals and he was more focused in the first round than in the quarter-finals today. The 18-year-old promising Kyrgyz caught the Mongolian southpaw, Tugsbileg Enkhtur with heavy shots in the first round and he took the lead on the judges’ scorecards. Kamilov was in different level as his Mongolian rival today and he won the semi-final by referee stopped the contest in the third round.
Uzbekistan’s Sobirjon Tastanov and Kazakhstan’s Nurassyl Tulebek had very similar fighting style and technical skills in their bantamweight (54kg) semi-final today. Tastanov was better in their tactical game in the second round and he had some advantages before the final minutes. The smaller Uzbek had the speed in the third round to beat his neighbouring rival and he became the first finalist in this weight class.
Kyrgyzstan’s Junior World Champion Amantur Dzhumayev ruled the middle of the ring against Iran’s Amirreza Soltani who used long distance tactics today. The Kyrgyz bantamweight (54kg) boxer earned several historic junior results in 2023 and he began the second round in a higher tempo. The referee counted the Iranian in the second round and Dzhumayev’s pressure was the decisive today between them.
Kazakhstan’s Zhanseri Kosherbayev started his featherweight (57kg) semi-final with extreme rhythm against Jordan’s Qais Eshish and he tried to demoralize his opponent from the first seconds. The Jordanian recovered from the first shocks and he adopted the rhythm of the bout in the second minute of this semi-final. Eshish surprised the Kazakh boxer with his quicker punches from his defence and his hooks were dangerous for Kosherbayev therefore Jordan’s new sensation secured his place in the finals.
Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Allaberganov impressed in the previous competitions and he arrived in Astana in top shape and he had the best weapon against Tajikistan’s Damir Muybalikhonov in the semi-final. The smaller Uzbek was in close range all the time and his hooks and uppercuts dominated their featherweight (57kg) semi-final today.
Kazakhstan’s Aleksey Khavantsev used his height advantage to keep the safest distance against Uzbekistan’s Asian Junior Champion Mironshokh Norkosimov and he looked effective in the exchanges during the first and second rounds. The Kazakh lightweight (60kg) boxer managed to win their contest and he advanced to the final where he will now meet India’s Sagar Jakhar.
Uzbekistan’s Abdullokh Tokhirov met an experienced Indian today, Yashwardhan Singh but he has chosen the right tactics in the first round. The Indian switched into a higher tempo in the beginning of the second round when Tokhirov had the right responses but surprisingly Singh’s hand was raised after the last gong. Tajikistan’s Ruslan Gafurov had a brilliant performance in the next contest against Kazakhstan’s Akhmet Ussen and he secured his nation’s second final place in Astana.
