Baricuatro and Suresh amazed at the minimumweight

Philippines’ Jay Bryan Baricuatro and India’s Vishvanath Suresh amazed in the afternoon session of the fourth competition day at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

India’s Vishvanath Suresh, the Asian Youth Champion, is one of the most promising boxers at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) in all over the globe and he had excellent rhythm against Iran’s Seyedarsham Hassani in the first round. The 20-year-old Indian had the speed advantage to catch the Iranian Elite National Champion with multiple shots and he won the first U22 medal in the entire championship.

Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 silver medallist Shodiyorjon Melikuziev and Philippines’ Jay Bryan Baricuatro both proved amazing rhythm in their semi-final at the minimumweight (48kg). Their hands were like the machine-guns and in that game the younger Filipino was more punctual and he had the advantage after two rounds. Baricuatro used the recent few months to develop his skills in all levels of boxing and he eliminated a top Uzbek today.

India’s Akash Ramesh Gorkha competed at the 2021 Youth World Boxing Championships and finally he was able to join back to the national team in Astana. The 22-year-old lightweight (60kg) boxer had better footwork than Iran’s Arman Ebadi Hajikhanlou and he had the clear success over his rival today.

Thailand’s Phuthanet Rodsuk was a silver medallist in the last edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and he tried to be a hard target for Uzbekistan’s Sayat Ilyasov in their lightweight (60kg) quarter-final. The 19-year-old Uzbek turned up the head in the beginning of the second round and he was able to turn back their quarter-final bout.

Tajikistan’s Asian Junior silver medallist Abubakr Murodzoda is a more experienced boxer than Iraq’s Kareem Qasim and he dictated the tempo of their lightweight (60kg) quarter-final. The Iraqi boxer finished the end of the second round with great jabs and hooks therefore Murodzoda had to do his very best in the last period to win their contest in Astana.

Kazakhstan’s Asian Junior Champion Ruslan Kuzeubayev landed his lethal body shots in the first round and he won the lightweight (60kg) bout by RSC against Turkmenistan’s Muhammetguly Yklymov. His teammate, the Youth World silver medallist Yelnur Suyunbay used well his height advantage and better footwork to beat Iran’s Ali Gorgi in the quarter-final of the welterweight (67kg).

Mongolia’s Jandos Askhar is a three-time older boxer than Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Youth Champion Almaz Orozbekov and he used his counter-attacking style of boxing in the first round. The Kazakh-descent Mongolian was tactically better in their opener but the 19-year-old Orozbekov delivered an outstanding finish and he could make a U-turn in this quarter-final bout to take the medal in Astana.

Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion Javokhir Ummataliyev had a powerful shot already in the first minute and the referee counted Thailand’s returning Witthaya Chansom. The Thai middleweight (75kg) boxer was too static in this contest and Ummataliyev controlled all of the three rounds in their quarter-final. Kazakhstan’s Youth World bronze medallist Dias Molzhigitov eliminated Jordan’s Youth National Champion Zaid Alden Iashash in the quarter-final of the middleweight (75kg) by unanimous decision but he can expect a hard contest as next. Kyrgyzstan’s Daniel Abdurakhmanov has five years of international routine and these paid off against Turkmenistan’s Begench Akmyradov therefore he will meet Molzhigitov as next.
