Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag and Dorjnyambuu Ganbold celebrated their unexpected triumphs at the Mongolian Nationals

The final bouts delivered several surprises at the Mongolian Elite National Championships in Ulaanbaatar during the sixth session.
The competition was a selection event for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Busto Arsizio, Italy from February 29, 2024. The Mongolians are planning to join several competitions before the World Qualifier to prepare well enough to the main competition.
The 22-year-old Yesugen Oyuntsetseg has already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but she had the strong motivation to take her next national title in Ulaanbaatar. The light flyweight (50kg) boxer defeated the teenager Sodon-Od Binderiya in the semi-finals and she continued her winning path against Byeisyenbei Janargul in the final.
The women’s bantamweight (54kg) was one of the strongest categories in the Mongolian National Championships. Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg and Enkhjargal Munguntsetseg were both medallists at the Women’s World Boxing Championships but they had to meet for the title in Ulaanbaatar. The younger Munguntsetseg had the great finish to earn the title of the weight class and she has the strong chance to compete in the next Qualifier.
Tugsjargal Nomin-Erdene, the young silver medallist from the 2022 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships, was the main favourite at the women’s featherweight (57kg) but she suffered a loss to a veteran boxer, Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag. Namuun Monkhor, another Asian medallist girl, returned to the lightweight (60kg) and she succeeded over Nergui Oyun-Erdene.
Ganzorig Badmaarag won the dream final at the women’s welterweight (66kg), she controlled her title bout against Myagmarsuren Tsetsegdari in the battle of the U22 boxers. Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar spent a short time in the ring against Erdenesuren Odgerel and she won the women’s middleweight (75kg) in the Nationals.
The Rio 2016 Olympian Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag returned to the sport and he succeeded at the busy men’s flyweight (51kg) in the National Championships where he defeated good opponents as Orkhontungalag Unubold and Aldarkhishig Battulga.
The 2021 ASBC Asian Champion and former Olympian Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu eliminated his main rival, Gantumur Lundaa in the semi-finals of the men’s featherweight (57kg) but he suffered an unexpected loss in the final. Dorjnyambuu Ganbold is also well-known in the international stage but his success over Kharkhuu was a huge surprise in the day of the finals.
Enkhtur Tegshjargal has seven years of international experience despite his age of 22 and the promising boxer triumphed at the light welterweight (63.5kg) in the National Championships. The Seed No.2 Tegshjargal controlled most of the exchanges against Buyandalai Bayarkhuu and he won their meeting by unanimous decision.
The national team member Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdene walked over to the title of the light middleweight (71kg) following his World Championships bronze medallist opponent, Battumur Misheelt, was unable to box in the day of the finals.
