Jordan, Kyrgyzstan and Chinese Taipei are also medallists in the women’s youth competition

The youth girls from our continent proved their very best once again in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Astana today. The crowd saw several top fights in the evening session in Kazakhstan’s capital where Kyrgyzstan, Jordan and Chinese Taipei also earned medals in the women’s youth part of the competition.
Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Palestine, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Yemen are the 22 participating nations in the event.
Anshu and Bakhtiyorova were confident in the openers of the evening session
Japan’s Eisha Taguchi had a very difficult task at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) against India’s Anshu who began their quarter-final in aggressive style of boxing. The Indian southpaw launched jabs, hooks and uppercuts from all of the ranges and she controlled the first round. Anshu finished their contest in the second round when the referee stopped their quarter-final which means the Indian will be meeting for the title bout Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian medallist Robiyakhon Bakhtiyorova.
Turganova and Chiu Ching Yu both won their contests by RSC
Kazakhstan’s Yelyanur Turganova was more experienced in the international competitions than South Korea’s An Su Bin. She began the bout with attacking style of boxing in their light flyweight (50kg) quarter-final and took the lead on the scorecards. The Kazakh southpaw caught her Korean opponent with heavy combinations in the second round and after the third standing counts, their bout was stopped by the referee. The Kazakh boxer will now meet in the semi-final Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Ching Yu who stopped also her today’s rival, Kyrgyzstan’s Ayana Ruslanova.
Kattipirot made an excellent international debut
Thailand’s Panisa Kattipirot is a new youth national team member but she proved her nice technical skills in the first round against South Korea’s Park So Hyeon. Both boxers were same tall and had very similar boxing knowledge but in that tactical game Kattipirot looked better today. Both of them were exhausted in the third round but the Thai girl had the advantage on the scorecards to win this quarter-final at the flyweight (52kg). Among the favourites, India’s Mohini and Uzbekistan’s Zilolakhon Yusufova both advanced to the semi-finals in this weight class.
Yunusova and Myrzakul meet each other in the next stage
Uzbekistan’s Uzukjamol Yunusova, the ASBC Asian Junior Champion, had a strong start against Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Chih Lin in their bantamweight (54kg) contest. The referee counted Chiu in the first round but Chinese Taipei’s High School Champion were able to fight until the last gong. Yunusova’s next rival in the semi-final will be a gold medal contender, Kazakhstan’s experienced Tomiris Myrzakul who had a quick success over Vietnam’s Quang Thi Nhung.
Korin Kokofu made remarkable second and third rounds
Japan’s Korin Kokofu was member of their national team at the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships and the 18-year-old boxer won all of her contests since that appearance. Her semi-final opponent at the bantamweight (54kg), Thailand’s Thitisuda Chanayota had an uncomfortable style of boxing and Kokofu was in trouble in the scorecards after three minutes. Kokofu had different attitude and motivation in the second and third rounds therefore the 18-year-old Japanese celebrated a tight victory after the last gong.
Abukhadijah won a female contest for Jordan
Jordan’s Mays Abukhadijah and Vietnam’s Tran Thi Truc Han were on the same level of boxing in the first round of their featherweight (57kg) contest today. The young talent from Jordan invested all of her energies to land shots from her distance and she had the stamina to beat the Vietnamese boxer securing a medal in Astana. Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Ulzhan Sarsenbek had to show more from her skills than she expected against Kyrgyzstan’s Medina Abyldayeva but she had an excellent third round.
