Marvin, Negmatulloev, Adylbek Uulu and Nurdauletov guaranteed the strong Asian day in Yekaterinburg

The AIBA World Boxing Championships for the men’s elite boxers continued with its second competition day in Yekaterinburg, Russia where boxers at the light heavyweight (81kg) and heavyweight (91kg) fought for their places to the last 32. The Asian boxers delivered even better day than the first and defeated strong opponents on Day2.
The Asian teams prepared strongly to the Yekaterinburg 2019 World Boxing Championships in the recent months after the Bangkok ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and our continent has got several medal and title favourites in Russia. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, China, Thailand, Philippines, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Jordan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan and many other teams from our continent have got world class boxers.
Altogether 107 Asian elite male boxers are attending in the event from 21 nations: Afghanistan, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan.
Philippines’ ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist and Southeast Asian Games winner John Nobel Marvin arrived to Yekaterinburg to test himself against boxers from other continents. The Filipino light heavyweight (81kg) boxer had to meet with a European opponent as first, Lithuania’s Paulius Zujevas and as expected he managed to win his debuting contest in Russia.
Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist and Rio 2016 Olympian Erkin Adylbek Uulu is another strong prospect from our continent at the light heavyweight (81kg). The Kyrgyz boxer is nine years older than Ireland’s Kane Tucker therefore the differences between their experiences were high. Adylbek Uulu used his longer reach in the bout well and eliminated his 19-year-old Irish rival unanimously.
Kazakhstan’s Bek Nurmaganbet won the title in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships but another 21-year-old talent has been selected to attend in Yekaterinburg. Bekzad Nurdauletov had superb junior and youth results in the past and he had also high number of elite contests already. The young Kazakh impressed with his strength and technique when he bowed out South Korea’s Hong In Gi in Yekaterinburg.
India’s Brijesh Yadav claimed silver medal in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament and started his campaign in Yekaterinburg with a success over Poland’s Mateusz Goinski. Tajikistan’s FISU University World Champion Shabbos Negmatulloev is one of the best Asian light heavyweight (81kg) boxers therefore his success over Sweden’s Liridon Nuha was an expected result in Yekaterinburg.
Iran’s London 2012 Olympic Games quarter-finalist Ehsan Rouzbahani returned to the national team after three years of break but he was in good shape against Slovakia’s Matus Strnisko and advanced to the next preliminary stage of the light heavyweight (81kg). His teammate Mohammad Shourian replaced Pourya Amiri in the national team at the heavyweight (91kg) but he worked well on Day2. The Iranian had to meet with a neighbouring rival Iraq’s Saadi Rabeah and due his excellent stamina, he won the tough fight by split decision.
