Mary Kom and Gabuco started their campaigns strongly in the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament

A longer marathon program was held in the 2nd edition of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in the city of Guwahati, Assam. Philippines’ newly crowned ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Josie Gabuco and India’s icon six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte both opened their campaigns strongly.
The 2nd Indian Open International Boxing Tournament is holding for the women’s elite and men’s elite boxers in Guwahati after the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The competition is supporting the boxers to prepare well to the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships.
The city of Guwahati hosted the 2017 edition of the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships 13 months ago where India earned record number of five gold medals. Guwahati is the host again in a top international competition and Assam region’s biggest city welcomed Asia’s top boxers this week.

Philippines’ ASBC Asian Champion Josie Gabuco eliminated her main rival at the women’s light flyweight (48kg)
Philippines’ 2012 AIBA Women’s World Champion Josie Gabuco achieved gold medal at the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok last month and became the best female boxer of the event. The experienced light flyweight (48kg) boxer had to meet with her main rival as first India’s two-time AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Nitu but Gabuco used up her experiences to keep the control. Philippines’ No.1 won all of the rounds in each scorecard and bowed out her Indian teenage rival in Guwahati.

India’s icon Mary Kom dominated her first fight in the Open
India’s six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte is the most successful female boxer in the whole globe who returned to the flyweight (51kg) and started her campaign in the Indian Open Tournament. The Indian icon dominated her first fight against Nepal’s Mala Rai and advanced to the next stage of the event performing strongly on home soil. Her superb teammates such as Strandja Memorial Tournament winner Nikhat Zareen and AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Jyoti Gulia both won their tough contests against well-experienced Indian fighters.

Strong Thai men boxers won their contests in Guwahati
Thailand send a team to the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem but their another squad is attending at the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in Guwahati this week. Thiwa Janthacumpa had a few difficulties against Turkmenistan’s Arslan Urunov but he increased his tempo and stopped his Central Asian opponent at the lightweight (60kg). Thailand’s 19-year-old super talented Youth Olympic Games winner and AIBA Youth World Champion Atichai Phoemsap also delivered his first success and eliminated Turkmenistan’s Begmurat Halmuradov. Another young Thai hope AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Peerapat Yeasungnoen returned after his eye injury and knocked out Bhutan’s Tshering Dorji in their welterweight (69kg) contest.

Marcial debuted in the Indian Open with an easy success
Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial was unable to box at the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships due his injury but he recovered and attends at the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament this week. The Asian Games bronze medallist and former AIBA Junior World Champion Filipino started his first round against Bhutan’s Sangay Wangdi strongly and led in each scorecard after three minutes of fight. The 24-year-old Filipino middleweight (75kg) boxer stepped into the gas and following the next knock down the referee stopped their contest in the second round.
