24 new champions have been crowned in the South Korean Youth & Junior National Championships

The 70th edition of the South Korean Youth & Junior National Championships was held in Chungbuk in the Chungju Indoor Gymnasium. The winners of the national competition could be represented South Korea in the international level in 2017 but after their first selections the boxers needs to be competed in another national event later this year.
South Korea has got more than fifteen national events every year and the local National Federation hosted its main competition for the youth and junior boxers. The event was a first selection event for the youth and junior boxers for the actions in 2017 and the winners are in good position after the Nationals.
Altogether 145 women and men bouts were held in the South Korean Youth & Junior National Championships and 24 champions have been crowned in the important national event in Chungbuk. For the women youth boxers the LOC scheduled two youth weight classes while the other 22 categories have been held for the men athletes.
The first gold medal in the women part of the championships was achieved by 17-year-old Kim Chae Won at the flyweight (51kg) which is an Olympic category among the female boxers. The young Korean boxer defeated JW Boxing Club’s Kim Myung Sun in the first women final in Chungbuk.
Jeonnam’s Im Ae Ji became the second female winner in the Olympic lightweight (60kg) following her triumph over Song Dae Hyun and the youth talent will have the chance to represent South Korea in the 2017 events. The South Korean female boxers will be attending in the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in 2017 which is planning to be hold in November.
The thirteen male junior winners are near to compete in the international level in 2017 and among the winners Shin Jae Yong (46kg), Seo Dong Geun (48kg), Yoon Tae Geun (50kg), Han Sang Beom (54kg), Kang Hyeong Ho (60kg), Kim Byung Ho (63kg) and Cho Hyeon Joon (66kg) delivered the best performance in Chungbuk. The South Korean juniors will be there in the 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in the Philippines which is planning to be hold in Davao City in August.
The men’s youth boxing competition was held in nine weight classes from the light flyweight (49kg) up to the heavyweight (91kg). The South Koreans attended in all important international youth events in 2016 and claimed medals in those competitions. The competition was also selection event for the 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The first gold medal was achieved by Lee Su Min who defeated Kim Jae Young in the final of the light flyweight (49kg) where 16 boxers attended for the medals. Daejeon’s Choe Do Hyeon continued his winning path in Korea and defeated Incheon’s Jeong Ji Hoon in the gold medal bout of the flyweight (52kg) which was another top bout in the national event. Lee Tae Min (56kg), Kim Jun Hyeong (60kg), Kim Pyeong Jung (69kg) and Jung Tae Wook (81kg) also performed well enough in the national youth event in Chungbuk.
