14-year-old Om Pariyar was the best boxer in the Nepal Junior National Selection Tournament
Nepal is a developing boxing country in the South Asian region but the Nepal Boxing Association has got great strategic plans to increase the level of their athletes in the upcoming years. Their Junior National Selection Tournament was held in the recent days to select their best boxer who will represent the country at the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships.
President of the Nepal Boxing Association Mr. Ram Awale decided to send boxers to all main international ASBC and AIBA competitions therefore a selection competition was held for their men’s junior athletes in Kathmandu.
The Nepal Junior National Selection Tournament was held in two weight classes to select their best talents for the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships which will be held in the island of Palawan in Puerto Princesa, Philippines in August 1-7.
Chitwon’s Om Pariyar will be turning to 15 only in the second part of August but he was able to deliver the best performance in the Nepal Junior National Selection Tournament. He defeated Yeman Shrestha in the semi-final and Central Boxing’s Rojit Maharjan in the final of the light bantamweight (52kg).
Central Boxing’s No.1 Sayaj Bahadur Shrestha triumphed over Naxal Boxing’s Sonam Shrestha in the final of the light welterweight (63kg) in the event but finally the 15-year-old talent was not selected to take part in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa.
