Turkmenistan’s National Men’s Elite Boxing Championships was held in the Northern part of the country in the city of Dashoguz just before the ASBC Asian Youth Continental Championships in the beginning of March. In the absence of some of their top youth and elite athletes new hopes shined in the six-days long competition where more than 110 boxers fought for the gold medals.
The biggest name of the event was London 2012 Olympian Nursahat Pazzyyev (75 KG) who was silver medallist at the 2012 AIBA Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Astana. The strong middleweight boxer who is only 20, defeated one of his main local rival, Farrukh Ismetov in the final of the category.
At the light flyweight class (49 KG) Begench Annageldiev defeated a local boxer, Turkmen National Cup winner Hursand Imankuliev. Both boxers were born in 1996 which means they will be able to be competed in the next 2014 ASBC Asian Youth Championships as well.
Further youth boxers made great performance in Dashoguz, Seyitdjan Babadjanov (52 KG) and Sunnet Annaseidov (60 KG) both increased their level of boxing in the recent one year and earned the gold medal in the National Elite Championships.
Experienced national boxers such as Nurmuhammet Tekayev (69 KG), Azat Hajinurov (56 KG) and AIBA Asian Olympic Qualifiers quarter-finalist Rasul Yuldashev (81 KG) also won their weight classes while local heroes 17-year-old Begench Shiriyev (64 KG) who moved down a weight class, Merdan Sadikov (91 KG) and Arslan Artykov (+91 KG) kept the gold medals in Dashoguz.
