The continent’s leading boxing power Kazakhstan is an active nation in the Asian boxing map since their independence. Short after the ASBC Asian Junior Championships which will be helding in the southern region of the Central Asian country, in Shymkent, another international event to be scheduled in Kazakhstan.

The international elite boxing tournament in commemoration of the heroes of Issatai Taimanov and Makhambet Utemissov will be held in the city of Atyrau which is located off the coast of the Caspian Sea in the Western part of Kazakhstan. The tournament will be starting on April 25 while the last competition day is April 30.

The upcoming event will be the fifth edition in the history of the Issatai Taimanov and Makhambet Utemissov Memorial Tournament where the organizer will be the Atyrau Regional Boxing Federation. At the very first time the forthcoming tournament will have a live coverage at the website of www.afb.kz. The evidence of the strength of the tournament is Azerbaijan’s AIBA World Champion Magomedrasul Medzhidov claimed only a bronze medal in Atyrau in a previous edition.

In the beginning of the London 2012 Olympic era the Atyrau Regional Boxing Federation also organized the event in 2009 and some of the future stars proved their skills in that competition. Kazakhstan’s London Olympian Ilyas Suleimenov and Russia’s AIBA World Champion Misha Aloian claimed the gold medals in Atyrau four years ago while Tajikistan’s AIBA World Championships bronze medallist Anvar Yunusov and Russia’s European Champion Magomed Omarov both achieved a runner-up position in the event.

Head coach of the regional squad is Erbolat Bisekenov who has got excellent boxers in their team which was in the Top8 in the last Kazakh Federation Team Cup. One of their top talent is current Youth National Champion Dastan Kurmanbekov who is a great super heavyweight hope who will show his skills in the ASBC Asian Youth Championships in Subic Bay next week. Klichko Brothers Youth Tournament quarter-finalist Erzhan Ordabayev and Azamat Dosmagambetov who is an experienced fighter in the light welterweight class, also Atyrau-based competitors.
