Ibragimova, Wu coast to Golden Belt finals

Kazakhstan’s Karina Ibragimova and Chinese Taipei’s Wu Shih Yi dispatched separate strong foes and advanced to the finals of the IBA Golden Belt Series Tournament in Marrakech, Morocco.

Two-time Women’s World Championships bronze medalist Ibragimova, who recently moved down to the featherweight (57kg) class, stunned two-time world and Asian champion Lin Yu-ting of Chinese Taipei anew via a hard-fought unanimous decision in their semifinal clash.

The 26-year-old Kazakh star will battle World Championships 2019 silver finisher Liudmilla Vorontsova of Russia for the gold medal.

ASBC elite silver medalist and Tokyo Olympian Wu, for her part, brushed aside Serbia’s Natalia Shadrina, 4-1, in the women’s lightweight (60kg) division.

The 25-year-old Taiwanese standout proceeded to the finals where she will meet Russia’s talented teenager Nadezhda Golubeva.

Meanwhile, Jordan’s defending Asian titlist Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh (men’s light-60kg) and former Asian silver finisher Obada Al-Kasbeh (light welter-63.5kg) settled for bronze medals after losing to Mohamed Hamout of Morocco and Gabil Mamedov of Russia, respectively.

Yousef Iashaish (feather-57kg) and Zaid Albitar (bantam-54kg) also gave Jordan bronzes as they bowed down  to their Russian opponents in the semis.
