ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba and the whole management send their sincere condolences to Iran’s Ghasem Amir Yavari’s family

The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore the whole ASBC management send their sincere condolences to Iran’s former Olympian boxer Mr. Ghasem Amir Yavari’s family who passed away at the age of 89 due to senility and caducity.  

Mr. Ghasem Amir Yavari was born in Tehran on December 5 in 1931 and boxed at the Jafari Boxing Club in the capital city. Yavari was already a reserve boxer in the Iranian national team at the London 1948 Olympic Games before his 17th birthday. He was the Iranian national team captain at the Tokyo 1958 Asian Games where he claimed silver medal at the light middleweight (71kg) and only eventual winner Osamu Takahashi was able to stop him in the final.

Mr. Ghasem Amir Yavari competed in the Rome 1960 Olympic Games and started his campaign with a success over Chile’s Alfredo Cornejo. Yavari was defeated by Poland’s star European Champion Leszek Drogosz in the last 16 of the Olympic Games. He won the Iranian National Championships last time in 1962 and served the country’s boxing team nearly 15 years. May his soul will rest in peace in Iran.
