Jalolov, Bayikewuzi emerge as heroes on Day 4 in Tashkent

Uzbekistan’s international star Bakhodir Jalolov and China’s rising standout Danabieke Bayikewuzi delivered sensational performances in the super heavyweight (+92kg) class on the fourth competition day of the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Tashkent.

Former world champion and reigning Olympic titlist Jalolov cruised to a rousing start in his campaign, hacking out a 5-0 rout against Bahrain’s ex-Russian Denys Latypov.

Bayikewuzi pulled off the biggest upset on Day 4 as he posted a hard-earned unanimous decision win at the expense of Armenia’s 2021 silver medalist and No. 1 seed Davit Chaloyan.

Kazakhstan’s multiple silver winner Kamshybek Kunkabayev, who is Jalolov’s top rival, took his first victory with a 4-1 score over Russia’s Aleksey Dronov.

Meanwhile, another hometown icon in Rio Olympics champ and three-time Asian elite titlist Hasanboy Dusmatov manhandled Mexico’s Oscar Castaneda, 5-0, in the flyweight (51kg) division.

India’s Govind Kumar Sahani proved that he is one of the medal favorites in minimumweight (48kg), claiming a close 5-0 triumph against Tajikistan’s best fighter Mekhron Shafiyev.

Tajikistan’s Bakhodur Usmonov and Jordan’s Obada Al-Kasbeh went into a rematch of their 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Championships final, and this time the former took the win with a 3-0 decision in their light welterweight (63.5kg) bout.

Mongolia’s 2021 Asian champion Chinzorig Baatarsukh bagged his second victory after outclassing Cameroon’s Mohamed Oumarou, 5-0.
