Paalam, Sachin and Phoemsap are the young heroes of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament

Two sessions were held in the third competition day of the 2nd edition of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in the city of Guwahati, Assam. The winners of Day3 advanced to the semi-finals and they are now guaranteed medallists in Guwahati. Philippines’ Carlo Paalam, India’s Sachin Siwach Singh and Thailand’s Atichai Phoemsap were the young heroes of the third competition day.
The 2nd Indian Open International Boxing Tournament is holding for the women’s elite and men’s elite boxers in Guwahati after the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The competition is supporting the boxers to prepare well to the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships.
The city of Guwahati hosted the 2017 edition of the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships 13 months ago where India earned record number of five gold medals. Guwahati is the host again in a top international competition and Assam region’s biggest city welcomed Asia’s top boxers this week.

Philippines’ Carlo Paalam defeated his Indian rival at the light flyweight (49kg)
Philippines’ Carlo Paalam claimed bronze medal in the last edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta at the light flyweight (49kg) and he opened his campaign in Guwahati with a success. The 21-year-old Filipino had to meet with India’s Neeraj Swami and his energetic style delivered for him a victory. He will be meeting in the semi-final with India’s No.1 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Deepak Singh who eliminated Thailand’s Samak Saehan in his quarter-final.

India’s Sachin Siwach Singh and Amit Panghal
India’s AIBA Youth World Champion Sachin Siwach Singh moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent one year but he is tall enough in this category. Sachin used his longer hands to keep the best fighting range against Philippines’ Asian Games silver medallist Rogen Ladon and won their tough quarter-final eliminating a top rival. His teammate Asian Games winner and ASBC Asian Champion Amit Panghal is also attending at the flyweight (52kg) this year but his strength is a different level. Amit controlled all of the rounds against Thailand’s Chakapong Chanpirom and joined to the last four in Guwahati.

India’s Kavinder Singh Bisht and Gaurav Bidhuri advanced to the semi-finals at the bantamweight (56kg)
India’s Kavinder Singh Bisht won the Gee Bee Tournament in Helsinki two month ago and competed successfully at the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok last month. The Indian bantamweight (56kg) boxer had to face with Philippines’ Asian Games bronze medallist Mario Fernandez and he used his technician skills to beat his top opponent in Guwahati. One of his main national rivals in this division Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Gaurav Bidhuri defeated an international level boxer Turkmenistan’s Bayramkhan Permanov winning the contest by large margin of differences.

Butdee and Phoemsap fly high in the Indian Open International Tournament
Thailand’s head coach divided their squad and some of their hopes are attending also in the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament. Bangkok 2015 ASBC Asian Champion veteran Chatchai Decha Butdee used up his strong experiences to eliminate a tough rival India’s Mohamed Hussamuddin at the bantamweight (56kg). Thailand’s Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games winner and AIBA Youth World Champion Atichai Phoemsap eliminated Turkmenistan’s Begmurat Halmuradov as first and he continued his winning path against India’s Ankit Khatana. The Thai light welterweight (64kg) boxer was quicker than his opponent which means Phoemsap advanced to the semi-finals in his second international elite competition.
