AIBA Youth World Champions as Phoemsap and Khalokov started well in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games

The second competition day of the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games was held in the Argentinean capital where the winners are advanced to the semi-finals. Thailand’s Atichai Phoemsap, Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay and Uzbekistan’s strong duo Jakhongir Rakhmonov and Abdumalik Khalokov all won their today’s contests.
Following the tough qualification process which were held in each continent between April and June the selected 28 women and 55 men boxers will be attending in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Among them the 17 Asian boxers including 6 women and 11 men talents are focusing to the medals of the boxing event. Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Uzbekistan received the right among the Asian nations to compete in the Youth Olympic Games.
Thailand’s AIBA Youth World Champion and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Atichai Phoemsap arrived to Buenos Aires as the main favourite of the men’s lightweight (60kg) and started his campaign in the Youth Olympic Games. The 18-year-old Thai talent used his unpredictable movements in the first round against Canada’s AMBC American Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Spencer Wilcox and controlled also the second. The Canadian tried to keep Atichai’s level but Thailand’s pride was better today and won their top level bout in Buenos Aires.
Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Rakhmonov claimed bronze medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok but he is member of the national team since 2015 and he has got plenty of experiences to handle such big pressures as the boxing tournament of the Youth Olympic Games. The 18-year-old Uzbek welterweight (69kg) boxer had to meet with Brazil’s AMBC American Youth Champion Kaue Belini in a re-match but Rakhmonov won their contest once again and the result was same as in Budapest.
Uzbekistan’s AIBA Youth World Champion and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Abdumalik Khalokov also opened his campaign in Buenos Aires where he is the main favourite of the bantamweight (56kg). The 18-year-old Uzbek star started the first round in different rhythm and dominated the opening minutes against Albania’s EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Muhamet Qamili. Khalokov was dominant also in the second round with his world class footwork and celebrated his first triumph in the Youth Olympic Games after the final bell.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Aibek Oralbay was the top favourite against Chile’s youth No.1 Andrew Salgado and he quickly determined his better skills in Buenos Aires. The 18-year-old Kazakh heavyweight (91kg) boxer was effective and caught his South American rival several times in their bout. Oralbay, whose twin brother is AIBA Youth World Champion, enjoyed the contest in the third round and won the bout by unanimous decision.
