151 Asians are chasing their Olympic dreams in Busto Arsizio

Altogether 151 Asian boxers including 52 girls are participating at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, Italy from today.

The total number of elite female and male boxers is 598 in this qualification event from 112 countries throughout the globe. These numbers made the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event the biggest ever boxing competition of all-times.

Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 26 participating Asian countries in Busto Arsizio.

South Korea sent maximum number of 13 boxers to the qualification event, but Kazakhstan also has 11 athletes in this competition. The Philippines sent 10, India and Uzbekistan both 9 boxers to Italy, Thailand covered 8 categories but Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan also has strong delegations there with 7 participants.

Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio, Japan’s Tomoya Tsuboi, Chinese Taipei’s duo Huang Hsiao Wen and Chen Nien Chin, Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Abdullayev and Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev, furthermore five of the Kazakhs such as Valentina Khalzova, Saken Bibossynov, Makhmud Sabyrkhan, Aslanbek Shymbergenov and Nurbek Oralbay are World Champions among the participating Asian boxers.

There are 49 quota places available for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in this 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Italy. The first competition day is March 3 and most of the quotas will be decided on March 9, 10 and 11.
